Traitor

Long ago, in a forgotten land,
Where magic still had reigned,
There no man would understand
The truth in his wistful dreaming.
And the land was pure, unfeigned
From snowy peak to sea strand.
No war or sorrow yet had stained
Man and his soul faintly gleaming.

But soon that was no longer true,
And strife and anguish came
To man and his beloved, too,
So that all was lost in weeping.
Destroyed in war's blood red flame,
Cities, dying, would return anew.
Such was the price of pride and shame
That left hope so hushed and sleeping.


The woman paid a heavy price
And darkness claimed her days
The time came for a sacrifice
So she left the earth still sorrowing.
Wandering their separate ways,
Her children, with her dark eyes,
Looked for escape from the maze
Fate wove for every soul in following.

That hope would lead them far
Into a tragedy without end.
Above shone their guiding star,
The cross of hope ever glowing.
Always there, the love of a friend,
Such loyalty that will never mar,
Such spirit, such strength to defend,
But to also die without ever knowing.

"To thine own self be true," though
Grief will claim the truest of all.
Only God in Heaven will know
The truth our hearts were concealing.
Like broken wings in the fall
Of angels, to nothing we will go.
Ash to ash, we must heed the call
And sink to darkness without healing.

so kiss me my King, as if you loved only me...forget the Queen who is away, and with me this night stay
